  • Salome Woman of Valor

Innovative, transformative and daring, Salomé: Woman of Valor is the culmination of over five years work by Grammy Award-winning composer/trumpeter Frank London and celebrated poet/performer Adeena Karasick. Salomé: Woman of Valor is a massive total art experience; a Spoken Word Opera groundbreaking in its interplay of poetry, music, video and dance.

Featuring an original score blending Arabic, klezmer, jazz and bhangra musics by Frank London performed with Indian percussionist Deep Singh and Middle Eastern keyboard player Shai Bachar; libretto written and performed by Adeena Karasick; dance created and performed by two of the most exciting young dancers on the New York scene, Rebecca Margolick and Jesse Zaritt; Rebecca Mak's video deconstructing Charles Bryant’s 1923 silent film, Salomé; all directed by Alex Aron (co-creator of A Night in the Old Marketplace). This powerful work of new Jewish art re-inserts Salomé back into her rightful place in history as a powerful revolutionary, refuting Oscar Wilde’s misogynist and anti-Semitic interpretation; translating the renowned myth to one of female empowerment, socio-political, erotic and aesthetic transgression.
